Missives from the Digital Front…eers!

AUGUST 6, 2012 — I have been a long-standing Bose Quiet Comfort earphones fan for more than a decade. And I still am — but, there is a new game in town. One company I met in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas was Sonomax Technologies. I have been able to use one of their products, their custom-fitted earphones called “eers.” In short, they rock. And, I like them significantly better than my Bose earphones. Here’s why:

1. Once you get past the odd, disconcerting five-minute fitting process (you pour the  liquid wax on their headset, insert into your ears, sit quietly for a few minutes, then, voila! Done!), they fit snugly. And they won’t just fall out, either. I promise.

2. They’re quieter than the Bose and cancel noises better.

3. They sound wonderful — music flows seemingly through the middle of your brain.

4. The pricing — $199 to $299 — isn’t horrendous, and is cheaper than Bose.

And, in case you’re wondering, you can do the fitting by yourself, and it’s painless. Seriously.
